I'll Eat You Up I Love You So

ITS BABY WEEK!!!! 

We are anxiously awaiting baby boy H.

Last month we had the honor of celebrating the soon arrival of Jamie's baby boy. We decided to go with the theme of "Where the Wild Things Are". It turned out AMAZING. The colors of the book are pretty dark. So to make it a little more feminine for her I added white and gold to the decor. It was just the perfect touch. 

I spray painted some mason jars gold and went scavengering for twigs in people's yards. People, you are welcome. It wasn't weird at all. The little boxes are from my kids Melissa and Doug Toys.

How amazing it this little personalized binky clip from Cranberries and Capers? They have adorable other leather options too. The little twig pencils I ordered from Eva's Feathers and painted the ends gold. I had everyone who attended leave a little message for baby and mommy inside the book.

The garland I made from various yarns. The backdrop is one of Jamie's Photography backdrops.

The pennant garland was made out of burlap.

I am so proud of these little desserts. I conjured them up in this head of mine and I am so happy with how they turned out. I will have to do a tutorial on them. I wanted to incorporate green in the desserts and it worked! YES! Don't you love it when you fly by the seam of your pants and it turns out.

These little decidants are dark chocolate toffee truffles topped with more toffee. You can find that recipe from My Baking Addiction HERE

Now THESE.. These round pieces of heaven are homemade "Swig" sugar cookies. They are everything. Swearsies. Swig is located in Bountiful and St. George so if, like us, that is quite a drive this is your next best option. The recipe is by cute Corrine from Mint Arrow's momma over at A Bountiful Kitchen.  You can find that recipe HERE. It did not disappoint... anyone ha ha.

How about that beverage bar?! This concoction is what has been helping me cut out Diet Coke from my life. It's been a long hard breakup but this definitely makes it easier. I will be posting that/those recipes soon. Your gut will thank me. 

For a little touch of a lite healthy snack I got a few bags of salad from Costco.

I came up with this little side table decor to rep the little man. It sat on top of a pretty white leather remnant and burlap I found at Hobby Lobby.

The wood slice and "H" are from JoAnne's.

These invitations by Paper and Pleats were Perfect! Obviously this one is for a birthday but she will custom that for you. Not to mention that Tiffany is like the cutest person ever and crazy talented. Check them out on Etsy HERE

Miles Apart, Loved from the Start

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of throwing my sister an adoption baby shower.

I have always loved the pictures all over etsy that have the hearts on the maps for long distance love. I knew I wanted to play off of that and incorporate maps. THEN my sister sent me this adorable picture she had taken at Flash Photo in Roy, Utah and my brain threw a beautiful image together. 

I had so much fun making her little headbands for this shoot! You can see the rest of her photo sesh on their blog.

Ahhh isn't she beautiful! Look at all that baby fur!

Can the world please invent something that projects what our mind is seeing when we get those burning ideas? It sure would make justifying these crazy ideas to our husbands a heck of a lot easier! Or moms. I was excitedly trying to explain to my Mom this awesome idea I had and she was all sorts of confused. I needed a visual!

I hopped on photoshop and came up with this shower invitation. 

You guys this shower turned out so dang adorable and inexpensive! The decorations were close to free! 

 My parents are members of AAA, so I had my mom go grab some maps of Utah and California. (AAA members get maps for free!)

I wrapped mason jars with the maps and we used fresh flowers from my parents yard. 

 My super awesome washer and dryer arrived on pallets (Thank you crafting Gods) I used them for a vintage looking backdrop for our focus table. 

I made her bunting banner from the AAA maps as well.

We had these heart state necklaces made for my sister and the Birth Mother. They have an open adoption so it is a sweet keepsake for them to cherish. California is where she was born and Utah is where she is now. 

We had family sign this matted picture for them to frame and I used an easel for the Sharpie holder. 

I've been in love with these long distance love printables for a while now. They really are pretty easy to make if you have a program.

This is the chorus line of "Top of the World" by Imagine Dragons. It held a special meaning for my Sister and BIL as they heard it many times on the drive to pick up their babe.

I had so much fun helping with this shower. It was an honor supporting our family in adoption. The whole experience was equally heart wrenching and spiritually gratifying. We are so blessed and thankful to this Birth Mother. Welcome to the family Oakley, you are so loved.

I Like Big Drums And I Cannot Lie

Big, shiny, massive, sparkling, washer and dryer drums that is! 

Ahhh…big drums.

It all started when my husband found a killer deal on these LG babies at amazon.com

Click click SOLD! They were going to be here in 7 days! So that meant operation Laundry Room was in full makeover mode! We had never touched our laundry room since we bought this house 5 1/2 years ago so it was about time we showed it some love. 

That's embarrassing. No wonder I hated doing laundry!

So we got to work!

 First up- Cabinetry and a pedestal. 

Once again the cars get kicked out of their room to clear a workspace. I worked on giving our cedar cabinets a makeover using the AMAZEBALLS Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I used pure white with a little bit of light gray mixed in. Then I used ebony stain to dirty it up.  It was my first time using Annie Sloan and it will not be my last! I fell in love like you fall asleep…slowly and then all at once :)

*SIDE NOTE*

-Did you see The Fault in Our Stars? Holy fantastic! I left the theater with bloodshot eyes, snotty nose, and a headache! It was THAT good!-

While I worked the brush, my husband started the pedestal. He 100% designed and built it himself! That man is crazy good at everything he does!

Next we painted the laundry room our favorite shade of gray Behr and did the board and batten. 

It was a long week but the washer and dryer arrived to one excited momma with a room all fancied just for them.

TADA!!

I am in love! There are so many times that I just stood in there..staring, marveling. Isn't that how it goes when you makeover a room? You just want to camp out in it for a week? I have noticed that my decor styling is leaning to a more clean and simple look. Think as in.. you will probably never see a colored accent wall in my house, but a textured one. 

Here is the amazing pedestal that the hubby built. I used the same method I did on the cabinets to paint and distress it. I used to keep my laundry baskets on top of my washer and dryer and it drove me nuts! Now they have a perfectly spaced little home right underneath. 

This little gem of a rug I found is from Kohls. I feel in loved with it because it allowed me to play around with more pops of color. But the thing that sold me? If you look in the picture below you will see a strip of black and white Aztec fabric with pops of neon. It was like they designed this one from the desires of my heart. 

 Ever since I saw Shelley's tutorial for an ironing board hanger over at House of Smiths (I'm talking forever ago) I knew I wanted one of my own someday. So I got a little crazy with my painting and it now looks a little like a party on a board…but who doesn't love a party? I mean, right? Right?! 

Then we installed a bar so I had a place to hang dry clothes. 

My washer and dryer are HUGE! I had to put something on the corner of the top of my washer because it was just too much negative space. I found the glass jug and frame at TJ Maxx and the mini stool at Hobby Lobby. This is one of my all time favorite picture in the history of ever that Jamie took for me.  I want to place them in a cute little tray, but I haven't found the perfect one yet. 

We don't have any sort of mud room in our home and with school starting soon, I wanted a better place for coats and backpacks other than doorknobs. Up went the board and batten and some fab hooks from Hobby Lobby. The Birds on the Line art is from Hobby Lobby as well!

What do you think? If success is measured by how much laundry is getting done.. then I would call this  a HUUUUUUGE success. Also, I've only had to pull Hudson out of the dryer once. So theres that.
